Members of The Religious Partnership for the Anacostia River can play an important role in influencing policy to improve the river and its surrounding environs by contacting federal and local government officials to educate them about the many issues surrounding the Anacostia River.

The staff of the Religious Partnership will provide training and support for congregations wishing to participate in this effort. The staff will help the members with such activities as:

• Becoming knowledgeable about the environmental issues and potential solutions.
  
  
• Developing an effective presentation style for communicating the details of their positions.
  
  
• Contacting and setting up meetings with local and federal government officials.
  
  
• Using letter writing, telephone calls and the internet as effective advocacy tools.
  
  
• Conducting public forums to educate and gain input from members of the community.
