ABOUT > BOAT TOURS

The Religious Partnership for the Anacostia River sponsors boat tours of the Anacostia River for congregations wishing to learn more about opportunities for environmental and social partnership around the river. These tours can be scheduled for afternoons or evenings during the spring, summer and autumn months of the year.

Doug Siglin, Director of the Anacostia River Initiative Office of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and staff lead the tours and tell the story of the river and its inhabitants from the time of Captain John Smith's first visit to our area. That story is now one of polluted waters and neighborhoods. It is the story of a forgotten river that has become a dividing line between neighborhoods within one city.

Doug presents ways congregations can participate in reclaiming the Anacostia while directly experiencing the river aboard The Susquehanna, one of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's boats that can accommodate up to 25 people. The boat is anchored at the Gangplank Marina, 600 Water Street, SW, where the tour starts. Safety requirements preclude children under the age of ten and adults must accompany anyone 18 and younger.

To sign up, please contact the Religious Partnership at 202-544-2257 or by email at info@ReligiousPartnership.org.
